District of Innovation

Introduction

House Bill 1842, passed during the 84th Legislative Session, provides Pearsall ISD with the opportunity to design a strategic plan according to the needs and resources of our District while maximizing local control.  It permits Texas public school districts to become Districts of Innovation and to obtain exemption from certain provisions of the Texas Education Code.

On February 21, 2018 the Pearsall ISD Board of Trustees adopted a resolution to initiate the Process of Designation as a District of Innovation (DOI) in order to increase local control over District operations and to support innovation and local initiatives to improve educational outcomes for the benefit of students and the community. Additionally, on February 21, 2018, the Board held a public hearing to consider the development of a local innovation plan and designated the makeup of the DOI Committee. The DOI Committee met on March 1, March 7, and March 20 to discuss and draft the local innovation plan.  On March 21, 2018 the drafted DOI Plan was posted to this website to allow the public to review.  On March 22, 2018 the District notified the Commissioner of Education of the intent to adopt a local innovation plan.  On April 23, 2018 the DEIC held a public meeting to consider the proposed local innovation plan and voted to recommend the drafted plan to the Board of Trustees.  On April 25, 2018 the Board unanimously voted to approve the local DOI plan.

The approved DOI Plan and presentations from public meetings are attached below.  The DOI Plan contains background information, FAQs, resources and other necessary information.  Further information regarding Districts of Information may be found at:
